Time Out names Ho Chi Minh Trail among Asia’s top 7 road trips

03 October 2025 | 08:11:00 AM

The Ho Chi Minh Trail, also known as the Truong Son Trail, has been listed among Asia’s seven most incredible road trips by British magazine Time Out.

Stretching along the Truong Son mountain range, the historic trail played a key role during the resistance war against the US, contributing to the 1975 Spring Victory that liberated the South and reunified the country. It has since become a symbol of Vietnam’s determination, courage, and ingenuity.

According to Time Out, while many travelers opt for a coastal railway route, the Ho Chi Minh Trail follows the legendary inland supply line used during the war.

"Part history lesson, part road trip; due to narrow, off-track roads, this war-relic road trip is best done by motorbike," the magazine wrote.

It also suggested that local companies can arrange trips along the 1,800-kilometer journey from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, or shorter sections for those unable to spare two weeks for the full route.

Other destinations in Time Out’s top seven include Thailand’s Mae Hong Son Loop, Pakistan’s Karakoram Highway, the Republic of Korea’s Route 1132, China’s Chuanzang Highway, Japan’s National Route 42, and Tajikistan’s Pamir Highway.
