Danang village named among world’s 20 most beautiful

19 January 2026 | 09:00:00 AM

Cam Thanh Village in Danang City has been ranked 20th among the world’s most beautiful villages in 2025 by Forbes, the highest position ever achieved by a Vietnamese destination.

Located about 3 km from Hoi An ancient town, Cam Thanh Village, now part of Hoi An Dong Ward in Danang City, is best known for its vast nipa palm forest and distinctive riverine landscape. In September 2025, Forbes magazine named Cam Thanh one of the world’s 50 most beautiful villages, ranking it 20th overall and making it the only representative from Vietnam on the list.

Cam Thanh occupies a rare geographical position at the confluence of three major rivers, Thu Bon, Truong Giang and Lo Canh Giang, before they flow into the East Sea. This location has created a unique brackish-water ecosystem covering more than 900 hectares, including over 300 hectares of waterways, canals and lagoons.

The village landscape resembles a living painting, with winding rivers and channels weaving beneath dense canopies of green nipa palms.

Local residents say the nipa palm forest was formed around 200 years ago, when migrants from southern Vietnam brought palm seedlings to plant in the area.

Covering more than 100 hectares, the forest is not only ecologically valuable but also deeply linked to national history. It once served as an important revolutionary base during the wars against French colonial forces and the United States, while also acting as a natural barrier protecting the village from annual storms.

Today, Cam Thanh is a popular destination, especially among international visitors in the summer. Travellers can experience floating through the palm forest in traditional bamboo basket boats, fish and catch crabs among the palms, and listen to traditional Quang folk songs performed by local residents.

Community-based tourism has grown rapidly, with more than 1,300 local people now involved in basket boat services.

Pham Len, who has worked as a basket boat rower for six years, said tourism has brought greater stability. “It is still a life on the water, but since shifting to tourism our family income has become more stable. People here are also prouder as our home attracts more international visitors,” he said.

Earlier, in 2024, travel platform Tripadvisor listed the basket boat experience in Cam Thanh among the world’s 25 most attractive boat-based activities.

Tran Tan Dung, chairman of the People’s Committee of Hoi An Dong Ward, said local people have always regarded environmental protection and landscape preservation as a natural responsibility.

He added that the Forbes recognition is not only a source of pride for residents, but also evidence of Danang City’s growing standing on the global tourism map. It provides an opportunity for Cam Thanh to further develop its potential while preserving its identity and promoting itself as a green, heritage-based and sustainable destination, contributing to the global promotion of Vietnam’s tourism image.
