Promote the heritage value of Ly Son Geopark

Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has coordinated with the Management Board of Ly Son Geopark to hold discussions on solutions to conservation and planning of Ly Son Geological Park (Quang Ngai).

 



According to preliminary research results of local and foreign scientists, Ly Son Geopark has outstanding geological, geomorphic, cultural, ecological and landscape values. In terms of geological values, Ly Son - Binh Chau sea volcanic cliffs and adjacent areas have many types of rocks representing different spraying regimes withiin the period of 13 million years, even in many proposed areas, there are many types of rocks that exist for billions of years. The ecology, sea and mountainous areas in the region have high biodiversity with many species of plants and animals.

At the talk, Setsuya Nakada, a member of the Global Geopark Network Advisory Board, highly valued the prospect of the geological park and said that the units needed to have effective structure, organization, management to develop operational plans for the development of geological park towards the benefits of local communities. Thus, it involves the active participation of local communities for the conservation and promotion of heritage values.

Assoc. Prof. Tran Tan Van, Director of the Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources, said that in the future, the Geological Park’s Document Drafting Board will try to translate the contents of scientific specialty to the most easily understood form as recommended by UNESCO. At present, during the explanation of Quang Ngai Geological Park's profile, there should be activities to strengthen management, environmental sanitation, conservation of values and education so that local people know about thethis geopark.
