Experts from DEFRA and GAHP highly appreciated VACNE's efforts to implement the cooperation project

(VACNE) – With the support and permission of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE) in collaboration with relevant units organized an international workshop on evaluating the results of the first year of implementation and orientation of the 2nd year of the project on October 18, 2023.

This is a collaborative scientific research project on assessing the current situation and proposing solutions to minimize the impact of open burning and the use of plant protection chemicals in agriculture on climate change and human health and biodiversity in Vietnam by the Vietnam Association for the Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE) with the sponsorship of GAHP, the UK Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) through the United Kingdom Global Alliance on Health and Pollution (GAHP). The conference was conducted in two forms: face-to-face and online between main bridgeheads in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hue along with many points in all 3 regions of the country with more than 60 domestic and foreign delegates participating.

After listening to Associate Professor Dr. Phung Chi Sy, Project Director, given an overview of the achieved results and next plans of the Project, representatives of partner units reported in-depth professional results and innovations such as using GIS mapping technology to evaluate hot spots, building a database on open burning and pesticide use, and initial results of building a pilot model in practice. to reduce open burning and use of plant protection chemicals in An Giang, Dong Nai and Ninh Binh provinces.

Speaking at the workshop, Experts Williams Elizabeth Catherine, Director of DEFRA's International Hazardous Waste Center, Lucile Dominique Okio GAHP Program Director, Petr Sharov, GAHP International Coordinator all highly appreciated VACNE's efforts to implement the project, inheriting the research,  assess, statistics, observations of authorities, synthesize and analyze the implemented solutions, thereby assessing the current situation, proposing new effective solutions.

Prof. Dr. Dang Huy Huynh, Vice President of VACNE, Head of the Steering Committee of the project also expressed his pleasure at the enthusiastic comments of the delegates and hoped that scientists would continue to contribute deeper ideas to the next activities of the project./
