There is no backdrop, no soundstage, and no decorative flags. There is also no need to introduce the program's delegates or to give an opening speech. Dozens of people representing various committees and councils, consisting of both young and old, gathered around the table like a family. Then, half of the participants in the seminar spoke, the oldest being a 95-year-old professor and the youngest a 47-year-old female master's degree holder. Memories and sentiments flowed continuously.
They recalled the first rally to celebrate World Environment Day (June 5) held at the Grand Opera House in Hanoi 42 years ago (in 1982). This was an unprecedented event at that time, so it was broadcast live by the Voice of Vietnam. The following year, World Environment Day was held in Cuc Phuong National Park, the first national park in our country. In 1984, World Environment Day was held in Hai Phong with a proposal to establish Cat Ba National Park, one-third of whose area is marine. Since then, despite many difficulties, World Environment Days have been regularly organized. World Environment Day in 1990 marked the first intergovernmental resolution between the state agency, the State Committee for Science and Technology, and the mass organization, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
The World Environment Day in 2000 was held in Hue and represented the Asian nation connecting with representatives from other continents. Starting from 2001, VACNE was awarded a certificate of merit for "Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development" to its members at the National Festival to celebrate World Environment Day.
This year's World Environment Day, professors, associate professors, doctors, and young members are all excited to reminisce about their journey together in environmental protection, participating in social criticism, voluntarily writing books and articles for the Association to raise awareness in society and protect the health of the people. The young members emotionally spoke about their growth since joining the Association. Then, lessons learned, especially those related to the 'incidents' in the Association's media, were also mentioned.
Everyone wishes each other to maintain their enthusiasm and health to continue contributing and participating in deep and meaningful discussions like this one.
