Inception Workshop “Strengthening farming communities’

23 January 2013 | 07:13:00 AM

The Workshop will be done on 22-23 January 2013, Hanoi, Vietnam

Viet Nam has been pinpointed as likely to be one of several countries most adversely affected by climate change. The potential impacts of climate change are likely to be most serious for agricultural production and water resources availability. The farming communities in the delta areas produce a large amount of the rice that feed Viet Nam as well as account for the fact that Viet Nam is the 2nd largest rice exporter in the world. Thus the wellbeing of the farmers and their agricultural systems in the delta areas are of importance not only to themselves and the provinces, but to Viet Nam as a nation, as well as to a large part of the world.

Supported by Sida’s Partner Driven Cooperation, the “Strengthening farming communities’ resilience to climate change in the Mekong and Red River deltas of Viet Nam” project aims to strengthen the resilience of farming communities in three provinces (Ha Nam, Thai Binh, Vinh Long) in the Mekong and Red river deltas, so farmers in the Mekong and Red River deltas are able to sustain food production in a world subject to changes in environment and climate.

This workshop will present the preliminary findings of the project related to status of climate change impact and adaptation in Viet Nam, thus stimulating discussions on the need for addressing climate change
in Vietnam and the role of this project in the Vietnamese perspective. Its outcome will be taken into account by the PDC partnership during the further implementation stage of the project. Key expert from relevant fields as well as representatives of local beneficiaries are expected to participate.

Time:  January 22- 23, 2013

Workshop place:  Sunway Hotel, 19 Pham Dinh Ho str., Hanoi, Vietnam.
