(VACNE) - This is the opinion of Mr. Pham Van Son - Director of the Vietnam Environmental Emergency Response Center (SOS) – a unit under VACNE, who has just answered the reporter of Natural Resources & Environment Magazine, after 25 years of operation.
Accordingly, the great achievement is not finance, but the huge amount of toxic substances that the Center has collected, when handling more than 300 oil and chemical spills in the past time. Do not give them the opportunity to escape into the environment, causing a direct and long-term impact on socio-economic development and the health of the community. In addition, there is an extensive network, with a strong force of experts in this field.

For a quarter of a century, the Center has built a network, with more than 100 environmental incident response stations across the country. These stations are not only equipped with modern specialized equipment, but also have a team of experts who both master the equipment operation process and know how to work closely with local partners to respond flexibly and effectively in all emergency situations.
Training classes on responding to environmental incidents in recent years, organized by the SOS Center in collaboration with functional units, have always attracted a large number of employees to participate. The 24/7 standby activity of the environmental incident response station system, promoting good efficiency is thanks to the active cooperation of the community, after awareness is raised.
The Director of the Vietnam Environmental Emergency Response Center (SOS) affirmed: this "huge profit" is thanks to the unit that always knows how to promote creativity and solidarity; and the ethics and responsibilities of officials and employees. Because, environmental incident response activities need modern, expensive equipment and many potential risks related to health and human life.
