Wastewater treatment system for Ha Long Bay to be installed

Authorities of Ha Long City in the northern province of Quang Ninh have decided to install a wastewater treatment system for Ha Long Bay.

Water along the road surrounding Ha Long Bay is being seriously polluted by 14 wastewater drains directly discharging into the bay. The 7-kilometre section runs from Ha Long 1 Market to the end of Tran Quoc Nghien Street.

Untreated wastewater is the major cause of pollution in the area, especially the section near Ha Long 1 Market where a new bridge is about to be put into operation soon.

Nguyen Cong Huy, director of Ha Long City’s Project Management Board, said that the wastewater will be stopped at the gate of the 14 drains which is connected to the wastewater treatment system.

At present, the system has been linked to two among the 14 drains. The work is expected to be completed before April 25.
