Vietnam Environmental Incident Response Center provides training to improve the capacity to handle oil spills for Border Guard officers and soldiers of Quang Nam province

27 August 2024 | 10:50:00 AM

(VACNE) - After many incidents of ships increasing the risk of oil spills around the buffer zone of the Cu Lao Cham World Biosphere Reserve, on August 21, 2024, the Vietnam Environmental Emergency Response Center – Central Branch coordinated with the Border Guard Command of Quang Nam province to organize a training session – practice in responding to oil spills for officials, soldiers of the Border Guard Command of Quang Nam province.

At the General Staff Hall Hall, officers and soldiers were updated with current legal bases and equipped with the necessary knowledge about equipment and handling methods when encountering oil spills.

The practical part was performed in Cua Dai waters, where officers and soldiers directly applied the learned methods in practice, handling simulated situations when detecting oil spills or ships in distress that were at risk of causing oil spills.

The training not only improves response capacity but also strengthens coordination between units in responding to oil spills, ensuring readiness to handle oil spills, contributing to protecting the marine environment and safety for the community.
