This is the largest conference ever to be held in Vietnam, with the participation of a large number of national and international scientists, as well as many senior leaders of the Government and related ministries and sectors. Because this is a land rich in potential but it will be one of the deltas in the world most affected by climate change and sea level rise; With forecast to 2100, nearly 40% of Mekong Delta area will be submerged.

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment said that there have been many conferences and seminars to discuss the development solutions in the Mekong Delta, but only focus on solving some specific and urgent issues, set for each field, each locality individually. So this conference is the first conference to mobilize the minds of scientists and managers to review and comprehensively assess the challenges and requirements for development in the Mekong Delta, among them, there are specialists from VACNE.
