Un-burnt building materials: environmentally friendly products

04 October 2010 | 09:35:00 AM

Over the past years, many traditional brick-kilns in which clay-baked bricks are made have caused serious environmental pollution in Khanh Hoa. The development of un-burnt light weight bricks has helped to reduce cost and minimize the environmental impact.

Environmental concerns are also becoming a major world topic concerning the availability and sustainability of certain materials.
Rapid urbanization has been seen in Khanh Hoa Province, especially in  Nha Trang City, which has been recognized the city of type I. Tourism and industry have developed significantly together with a great demand for building materials. Light Weight Bricks, un-burnt building materials are an effective solution. Lightweight bricks are made from slates, cement and foaming elements.   are expected to be tomorrow’s bricks. They allow for quicker and easier construction times, therefore saving time and labor costs overall.

Lightweight bricks are especially suitable in coastal areas. The use of un-burnt building materials are really economical. In spite of light weight, the bricks are load-bearing materials. The total capital in the construction decreases by 7 - 10%.
However, there are not many un-burnt building material producers in Khanh Hoa. According to Minh Duc Construction Company located in Dac Loc Industrial Zone, Vinh Phuong Commune, Khanh Hoa Province,  equipment for production of un-burnt building materials are quite expensive. In addition, complicated building procedures are required and the cost of un-burnt building materials is rather high. This is one of the reasons why not many people have chosen the energy bricks in Vietnam.
To develop the green energy materials, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung issued Decision 567/QD-TTg dated April 28, 2010 on the development program for non-baked building. Accordingly, Vietnam is striving to use 23-25% of non-baked materials in 2015 and 30-40% in 2020. As of 2011, construction works which have more than nine floors must use at least 30% of  non-baked building materials.
The Ministry of Construction has also promulgated many preferential policies to facilitate the production of non-baked materials which are widely used in many countries in the world. The use of non-baked materials not only helps avoid destroying agricultural land, but is also an eco-friendly product which reduce environmental pollution.
