The SOS Environment Center successfully responded to an oil spill overnight at the epidemic center in Da Nang

(VACNE) - The SOS Environment Center of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment has successfully responded to an oil spill incident that occurred on the night of August 3, 2021, at the Covid-19 epidemic center of Da Nang city, due to a fishing boat moored sunk.

This is an unexpected and very difficult situation for the members of the Center, because the information is received at exactly 1:00 am and to go to the incident scene, you have to pass 6 quarantine checkpoints. But with the flexible response of the Center members, the timely support of the functional units of Da Nang city, especially the Management Board of Tho Quang fishing port; Da Nang's Department of Life Insurance... so the SOS Center in the Central region promptly dispatched forces to the scene to survey and quickly deploy operations. Using specialized buoys, surround the entire sunken ship area, prevent oil from spilling into the environment, and together with the security force of Tho Quang fishing port, zone the scene and end the response activities at 4:00 am.

According to estimates by the Management Board of Tho Quang Fishing Port, the amount of lubricant on the fishing vessel sank about 3 m3, if not promptly responded in the night, the consequences for the environment are very serious. The Environmental SOS Director also affirmed, all incidents can be controlled if timely actions are taken and the correct response methods are usedy.
