27 June 2011 | 02:36:00 PM

The Vietnam Record Book Center, Vietkings, has recognized Son Doong Cave in Quang Binh Province, the world’s largest cave, as the cave with the largest dome in Vietnam, reports VietnamPlus.

As part of the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, the cave was discovered in 1992, and recognized by British explorers in 2009. Since then it has been widely known in the world for its huge size and beauty.
The cave is about 200 meters wide, over 150 meters high and at least 6.5 kilometers long, defeating the Gunnung Mulu in Malaysia as the world’s biggest.
On this occasion, Quang Binh secured ten other records. It is the province with the highest number of caves, over 300 caves, in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang grotto system.
It has the highest number of underground rivers such as Son River, Chay River and Trooc River with a length of 20 kilometers.
It also has the longest section of the Ho Chi Minh Road with 320 kilometers out of the total 2,800 kilometers.
Other records include the outdoor mineral spring with the highest temperature in Vietnam: Bang stream is completely aseptic and the only water source in Vietnam with a temperature over 105 degrees Celsius, the longest coast and beach, province with the narrowest width.
While Thien Duong cave also received three records, namely the longest wood bridge which is 1,000 meters long and 2.1 meters wide, longest dry cave which is 60 meters high and 30-150 meters wide  and the cave with the most special system of stalactites.
