Recognition of 156 Vietnamese Heritage Trees in Bai Tu Long National Park

(VACNE) - On the morning of December 22, in Minh Chau island commune (Van Don district), the Management Board of Bai Tu Long National Park solemnly held a ceremony to announce the decision and receive the Certificate of Recognition of Vietnamese Heritage Trees for 156 trees growing in Bai Tu Long National Park.

 Attending the ceremony were leaders of departments of Quang Ninh province including: Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Information and Communications, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Transport, Provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations,... Mr. Dao Van Vu, Standing Vice Chairman of Van Don District People's Committee, Mr. Pham Ngoc Vinh, Director of Bai Tu Long National Park and a large number of officials of the Garden and people of 2 communes Quan Lan and Minh Chau.

Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Nature and Environment Protection, led the delegation of the Association to attend and award the Certificate of Recognition of Heritage Trees to the Management Board of Bai Tu Long National Park.

TS. Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Nature and Environment Protection, awarded the Certificate of Recognition of Heritage Trees to the Bai Tu Long National Park Management Board and local leaders. 

In the area of Minh Chau Island in Bai Tu Long National Park, the ancient landmark brooch forest complex is currently preserved, including 272 trees with a life span of 150 years or more and over 2,000 trees under 150 years old. In which, 150 ancient trees, meeting all the criteria have been recognized as Vietnamese heritage trees.

So far, the appearance of 2,415 species of organisms has been recorded, including 1,195 species of forest animals and plants, 1,220 species of marine organisms. In which, 106 species are recorded in the Red Book of Vietnam, the World Red List.

With the values of natural landscape, diversity of ecosystems, diversity of genetic resources as well as species composition, especially the endemic value of the pine ecosystem, on September 30, 2016, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) recognized Bai Tu Long National Park as the 38th ASEAN Park in the region.

Delegates and people of Minh Chau commune (Van Don district) participated in the opening of the stone stele of the Vietnam Heritage Tree 

Previously, Quang Ninh province had 162 trees recognized as Heritage Trees by the Vietnam Association for Nature and Environment Protection. The recognition of Heritage Trees aims to contribute to raising awareness of tree protection and biodiversity conservation in residential communities; at the same time, contributing to the tourism potential and promoting the image of the locality.

The delegates visited and inspected the current status of the mold brooch forest on Minh Chau Island, the current number of trees is more than 2,000 trees.
