The aquatic protected area aims to preserve the ecosystems of coral, seaweed, sea grass, and breeding ground of aquatic plants and animals in the region.

The new zone is expected to preserve and develop species especially wild and valuable ones such as abalone, sweet snail, pearl, blue mussels, Red Lobster.

It also contributes to protecting national defense, security, island sovereignty, and stabilize people's lives and production.

Accordingly, a head office and auxiliary projects of the Management Board of the sea preservation zone will be built.

In addition, a museum, a harbor and transport roads will be constructed.

A number of landmarks, drift signals, and signs will be installed. Conservation stations and a rescue center for wild and rare aquatic plants and animals which are vulnerable to extinction will be built.

Meanwhile, more equipment will be provided to help better the investigation, supervision and protection of fishery resources.

Earlier, the PM in 2013 approved a plan on the system of marine conservation zones through 2020.

Accordingly, by 2015, Viet Nam will have 16 marine conservation zones namely Chen Dao, Co, Cat Ba, Bach Long Vi, Hon Me, Con, Son Tra Hai Van, Cu Lao Cham, Ly Son, Hon Mun, Hon Cau, Phu Quy, Nui Chua, Con Dao, Nam Yet, Phu Quoc.
