More than 98% of offering baskets meet the criteria for green offering baskets in Con Dao

28 September 2024 | 08:31:00 AM

The Con Dao National Heritage Conservation Center has announced that after 11 weeks of implementing the "Green Offering Baskets on Saturdays" campaign (from July 6th to September 14th), Hang Duong Cemetery has welcomed 27,663 visitors with 10,642 offering meals, baskets, and flower bouquets. Among them, 10,470 offering baskets meet the criteria for "Green Offering Baskets," accounting for 98.38%.

Out of the 10,470 offering baskets that meet the criteria for "Green Offering Baskets," only 172 baskets (equivalent to 1.62%) are made from materials such as plastic bags, foam, and nylon. These offering baskets have been supported and redesigned by the team to meet the specific criteria of Green Offering Baskets.

The "Green Offering Baskets on Saturdays" campaign is the second phase of the "Say No to Burning Incense Paper" awareness campaign at heritage sites throughout Con Dao district. The campaign aims to minimize hazardous waste and environmental pollution while contributing to the realization of the objectives of the project "Research and Application of Circular Economy for Sustainable Socio-economic Development in Con Dao District" from 2022 to 2025, with a focus on the year 2030.

Previously, during the first phase (from October 1st, 2023, to June 30th, 2024), the focus was on awareness through flyers, posters, and radio broadcasts to encourage residents and tourists to limit the practice of offering and burning incense paper when visiting historical sites. The third phase will take place from October to December, during which "Green Offering Baskets" will be implemented throughout the first week of each month. By 2025, the campaign will enter its fourth phase, aiming to continuously implement "Green Offering Baskets" for 365 days at all historical sites in the district.

Green Offering Baskets are baskets that do not contain incense paper, foam, plastic bags, plastic bottles, or disposable plastic trays. The size of the offering baskets must be neat and dignified, with a height, length, and width not exceeding 50 cm."
