Da Lat Police confirmed that they had fined 32-year-old Mai Son VND10m for illegally hunting of wild birds.

Son and two other men brought slings to Tuyen Lam Lake which was recognised as a national tourism site to hunt for hoopoe birds when they were bringing food to the nest. Photographers captured images of the hunt and posted them online.

Da Lat Police and the Department of Forest Protection launched an investigation to find the hunters. They knew the group's number plate of the car used during this trip.

According to the Department of Forest Protection, illegal hunters must be dealt with. The hoopoe bird is not listed in the Red Book of Vietnam but it is a beautiful and rare species. It is known for the distinctive crown of feathers and has a long beak
