VACNE ACTIVITIES

LIGHTING FLAMES OF HEART AND RAISING SEEDLINGS ON A FOGGY HOMELAND

07 August 2009 | 07:59:00 AM

VFCD belonging to VACNE recently ended successfully the last 2008 Work-camp in Sapa, Lao Cai with the participation of Vietnamese and international volunteers. This event was one of the International Volunteer Programs carried out in various localities by VFCD.

Many significant activities were taking place throughout the work-camp such as charity activities and games for ethnic minority children jointly organized with Ta Van Primary School. Thanks to the exciting activities of the significant cultural exchanges, the volunteers wiped out the complex of ethnic minority children to help them have self-confidence in integration with the communities. Besides, the volunteers granted fellowships and presents to the children having difficulty in their daily life to help them overcome current hardship and encourage them to believe in their bright future. With their teachers’ assistance, the pupils carried out some activities such as growing vegetables for boarding pupils, mending or tidying up the school so as to improve their learning conditions.

Especially, the volunteers coordinated with Project Management Board 661 in Sa Pa District and with the local ethnic minority people to plant large amount of green trees on uncultivated land and bare hills and mountains, conserving the upper sources of water. Through those activities, the volunteers helped the local people contribute to the sustainable development of economy and environment.

Mr. Robin working for the Education Ministry of Singapore said: “Participation in voluntary activities organized by VFCD is a great opportunity for me to find out about the culture of Vietnam and to share the hardship with the ethnic minorities here. Hopefully, I will have a chance to return to Vietnam for making further contribution“.

Mr. William from Australia said: ”I hope the green seedlings my friends and I planted on this land will keep growing forever as well as making our living environment better”.

The programs operated by VFCD taking place in a multi-culture environment not only helped improve the life for local people but also make them believe firmly in a better life in the future.
