Legal proceedings commence for endangered animal violation

02 March 2015 | 04:57:00 PM

The management board of the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in the central province of Quang Binh has begun legal proceedings against a violation of regulations on protecting animals in the list of rare species in accordance with Article 190 of the Penal Code.

Accordingly, on December 4, 2014, Doan Xuan Hoa from the Bo Trach district was

discovered transporting a dead wild animal weighing 8 kilogramme and was unable to produce any documentation proving a legitimate or lawful origin for the animal.

On November 7, 2014, the park’s forest management station issued a decision requesting the provincial forest ranger department to examine and determine the name and species of the seized animal.

The animal was found to be a Ha Tinh langur (Trachypithecus hatinhensis) - an endangered primate species included in Vietnam's red book.

Earlier, another case of illegal transportation of wild animals was discovered in the park last August, after 10 desiccated red-shanked douc langurs, one red-faced monkey, and one white-cheeked gibbon were seized
