(VietNamNet Bridge) – Six students and groups participated in the final round of the “Journey to Save the Tiger” contest, organised by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). A student from the Hanoi Foreign Trade University claimed first prize.

The trip to the Cuc Phuong National Park.

The "Journey to Save the Tiger" contest was open to Vietnamese high school and university students in Hanoi. It attracted more than 100 students and student teams from many provinces and cities in Vietnam.

In the final round, six students and groups competed in presentation skills, knowledge on preservation, fund-raining solutions and in defending the feasibility of their solutions. Finally, Tran Tuan Minh from the Hanoi Foreign Trade University won the first prize. Duong Hang Linh from the Hanoi National Economics University took second prize and the FWW group from the central province of Quang Ngai received third prize.

The first-prize winner won a trip to Singapore’s Safari Zoo.

“I’m very happy that an economics student like me can partly contribute to the preservation of nature and sustainable development. I hope that the ideas of mine and other contestants will be implemented so we will have a tiger-rescue centre,” Tuan said.

Contestants were asked to describe their ideas to raise funds for a tiger-rescue centre in Vietnam within a year. The top contestants of the first round were awarded a journey to Cuc Phuong National Park in Ninh Binh province to learn about the situation of some species of endangered wild animals in Vietnam.

The competition was organised in order to reduce consumption of wildlife products in Hanoi and is part of the Vietnam campaign, a partnership between WWF Greater Mekong and TRAFFIC South East Asia.
