Hanoi gives priority to developing environmentally friendly transport system

On May 24, Mr. Hoang Manh Hien, Vice Chairman of Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee had a meeting with Mr. Ayumi Konishi, Country Director of Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Vietnam on several collaborative projects in the coming time with focus on transport development and clean water supply ones.

 

Accordingly, Hanoi City proposed ADB some collaborative priority projects between the two sides in the coming time such as projects on urban transport development, including a project on improving capacity for the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board; a project on technical assistance and building the prolonged urban railway No.3 (from Hanoi Railway Station to Hoang Mai District); a project on sustainable transport development in Hanoi which are to build a smart parking sites, to develop environmentally friendly bus system and to connect transport with the urban railway line No.3 (Nhon-Hanoi) and a project on clean water supply for Hanoi’s western districts to use water sources from Da River Surface Water Treatment Plant.
Mr. Hoang Manh Hien, Vice Chairman of Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee, shared his view that these fields will be paid more attention to being implemented by Hanoi in the coming time. The projects proposed to ADB now have already met the necessary legal conditions and municipal authority in collaboration with ADB is completing procedures for setting up project proposals. Mr. Hien expressed his desire that ADB will coordinate with Hanoi more actively so that these projects can be executed in the shortest time. Mr. Hien also added that urban railway No.3 project is currently being implemented by Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee and expected to be completed by 2015.
Mr. Ayumi Konishi, ADB Country Director in Vietnam, said ADB is very interested in investing in transport and environment development projects in Vietnam and Hanoi. He expressed his hope that Hanoi is able to catch up with the required progress of the projects being implemented by ADB’s loans and is carrying out a good preparation work for the new projects. ADB will actively coordinate with Hanoi’s agencies in this preparation period.
