In 2011, following directions from Hanoi City, Hanoi DONRE, in collaboration with some research institutes and centers, has carried out a project on reducing surface water pollution by integrating management of water resources with participation of the community and applied effectively IDRABEL technology of spraying Bio-Vase and Bio-Col products on the surface of the lakes. Hanoi City also cooperated with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) in pollution treatment of Truc Bach Lake and some other lakes, social rehabilitation of the lake, etc. aiming at creating clean, hygienic, and beautiful images of the lakes.
During 2 previous years, environmental pollution of 13 lakes in the Capital were effectively treated. Values of basic pollution parameters like COD, BOD, total phosphate almost satisfied standard requirements in QCVN 08: 2008 and QCVN 24: 2009, some lakes’ water already met the standards, the water didn't stink any more, aquatic life could survive and develop, and the environment became clean and beautiful. After the pollution treatment was finished, management of the concerned lakes was handed over to responsible institutions which must continue in maintaining the quality of the lakes. DONRE is responsible for continuous supervising and regular monitoring the water quality in the lakes.
In 2011, the city has been continuing to enhance water pollution treatment technology to 15 other lakes. Especially, in the case of To Lich River, the Hanoi People's Committee has invited Japanese and Korean experts to assist in research and investigation in order to find out suitable technologies for To Lich water treatment. The People's Committee has also ordered Department for Architecture and Planning and Hanoi Institute for Construction Planning to develop an overall plan for the To Lich River on creating a separate flow of domestic wastewater, which has been always discharged directly to the river, and directing it to Phu Do and Yen Xa central treatment facilities.
