36 more ancient trees in 9 provinces and cities shortlisted as Vietnam Heritage Trees
(VACNE) - On 19/11/2024, the Vietnam Heritage Tree Council held its Tet Giap Thin Year-end meeting, considering the recognition of 36 ancient trees in the provinces of Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Hai Duong, Nam Dinh, Quang Nam, Binh Duong and the cities of Can Tho, Hai Phong, eligible for recognition as Vietnamese Heritage Trees.
Nam Dinh province topped the list in this batch (there were 10 trees); Can Tho City ranked second (9 trees) and followed by Phu Tho (6 trees), Yen Bai (4 trees) and Hai Phong (3 trees). Other places such as Vinh Phuc, Hai Duong, Binh Duong and Quang Nam, each place has only 01 tree that the Council unanimously submitted to the President of the Association for approval and recognition as a Vietnamese Heritage Tree.
Nam Dinh province has 8 trees in the compound of Keo Hanh Thien Pagoda, Xuan Hong Commune, Xuan Truong District and 2 ancient trees elsewhere recognized as Vietnamese Heritage Trees
All 9 ancient trees of Can Tho city included in the list of Vietnamese Heritage Trees in this review are aged 150 years or more and belong to a family in Cai Khe ward, Ninh Kieu district.
Phu Tho province has 6 more Heritage Trees in this review and together in Quang Huc commune, Tam Nong district. It is a giant Thi tree nearly thousand years old, with a trunk circumference of up to 9.5 meters in Dinh Ha, 3 banyan trees nearly 300 years old, 2 other ancient trees in Quang Huc commune.
Four ancient trees of Yen Bai province were considered and recognized by the Council as Vietnam Heritage Trees in this batch, are forest trees for precious wood and registered by the Forest Ranger unit with the goal of being the first tree for propagation.
Hai Phong city has 3 ancient trees (nearly 300 years) up to 15 meters high in the campus of An Bien family, Hung Nhan commune, Vinh Bao district.
The fly tree in Dong Vinh temple, Thuong Lat village, Tan Tien commune, Vinh Tuong district, Vinh Phuc province is the largest fly tree ever. The age of the tree is more than 700 years, the trunk circumference is up to 2.8 m and the height is almost 20 m.
