Luu Trung Kien, from the Wild Animal Rescue Centre of the national park, said the wild animals included a wild cat or Prionailurus bengalensis; three tortoise or Cuora galbilnirol and Manouria impressa and two red-face monkeys or Macaca arctoides.

Kien said the wild animals were released into the forest after having been cared for at the centre to help recover their good health and would adapt well to the nature.

The Pu Mat National Park is located in the middle of the Nghe An Biosphere Reserve, one of Vietnam's six such areas, which have been recognised as world biosphere reserves.

It not only has great value because of its biodiversity, but also constitutes an attractive eco-tourism site in Central Vietnam.

Situated in the administrative areas of An Son, Con Cuong and Tuong Duong Districts, Nghe An Province, the park consists of a central area of 94,804ha and a buffer zone of 86,000ha and has rich biodiversity in the form of numerous rare and precious fauna and flora.

According to surveys carried out during recent years, the Pu Mat National Park has nearly 2,500 species of plants and nearly 1,000 species of animals.

The name Pu Mat is familiar to scientists because the park is home to Sao La (pseudoryxnghetinhensis), a rare and precious animal
