22 September 2011 | 09:21:00 AM

Responding to the International Day without Smoke, Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE) organizes a program for walking along streets of Hanoi.

With intention to join the world actions for the environment by reducing pollution caused by transport, saving cost on transport and energy, VACNE, together with Vietnam Union of Scientific and Technological Associations (VUSTA) and other environmental organizations are responding to the International Day without Smoke under the theme “Green Walking”.

The Program will take place on September 25 from starting point at Hanoi Children Palace. Participants will be divided into 15 groups, which will then walk through 15 street lines in the old town. After walking, all groups will gather together to report about their trips, participate in collective games and receive certificates for participation in the event.
Activities to respond to the International Day without Smoke have been organized by VACNE since 2008 and received support from a large number of people. In the previous year, the program organized in Hanoi to celebrate one thousand year of Thang Long – Ha Noi drew participation of more than 300 volunteers.
According to the statistics made by Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ho Chi Minh City has a loss of 50 million USD and Hanoi of 20 million USD caused by air pollution, namely by emissions and particulate matter.
