VACNE President received a group of American students to do volunteer work in Vietnam
On August 11, 2011, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, President of Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE) met with Dr. Gerard Sasges, Resident Director of the University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) in Vietnam and eight UC students to discuss volunteering with VACNE.
All students are Vietnamese-American except for one who is Korean-American. They are participating in the University of California’s Education Abroad Program and attending Hanoi University.
During their stay in Vietnam (from now to December, 2011), in addition to learning about history, culture and Vietnamese language, students will be taking classes in business, environment, economic development and environmental protection. UCEAP looks forward to working with VACNE and the volunteer experience and opportunities VACNE has to offer.
The group leader and students, including: Le Peter, Luong My Han Annelisa, Mai Thi Le Thuy, Ngo Bao Ngan Vy, Ngo Thuy Tien Colleen, Ta Michelle, Tang thi Ngoc Diep and Kang Hae Jin were warmly received by Dr. Sinh and some VACNE’s leaders.
After making an introduction about VACNE’s activities, Dr. Sinh expressed hope that the American students will do their best to contribute to the development of the community with concrete actions such as improving the English part of VACNE’s website and participating in activities of the Cycling for Environment Club (C4E) under VACNE.
VACNE leaders, including Dr. Dang Huy Huynh, Dr. Pham Ngoc Dang, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hoe and Dr. Lai Minh Hien, discussed and answered many questions from the students and affirmed that the passion for environmental protection of Vietnamese scientists originates from patriotism and desire for a better and prosperous life of future generations.
