26 January 2011 | 03:40:00 PM
On 18 March, 2010, VACNE officially launched the event "Conservation of Vietnam’s Heritage Trees."
The focus of the event is to pay tribute to planted trees that are more than 100 years old and 200 years old that were either grown in nature or by people.. The trees will be judged by their scenic, environmental, scientific, cultural and historical values in order to be credited as a "heritage tree". These trees must be proposed by the community, registered by those who had ownership over them and recognized by VACNE.

The event will be lead by VACNE who has invited relevant governmental bodies, NGOs, mass media, international organizations and other relevant organizations to participate in the events festivities. A Task Group and a Selection Board will help VACNE select the trees that would be honorably recognized as heritage trees. The overall goal of this event is to create sound conditions for the conservation of these particular heritage trees, and, at the same time, raise community awareness in biodiversity conservation and environment protection.
