1. Project on turning Vietnam into anIT and communication power approved
On September 22, 2010, the Prime Minister approved the project on turning Vietnam into an information technology (IT) and communication power. The project is believed to create an important breakthrough in applying IT, while focusing on five most important issues 1/ developing IT labour force 2/ developing the broadband telecommunication infrastructure 3/ popularizing informatics 4/ applying IT and 5/ building up the IT-communication market
2. The Post Law ratified by the National Assembly
The Post Law was ratified by the National Assembly on June 28, 2010 and will take effect on January 1, 2011. The law includes 10 chapters and 46 articles, stipulating the rights and responsibilities of institutions, individuals and state management in postal services.
As such, together with the Information Technology Law, Cyber Law, Publication Law and the decrees guiding the implementation of the laws, Vietnam will have a perfect legal framework with complete mechanisms and policies, allowing to push up the development of postal, telecommunication, IT, publication and press activities in Vietnam, and meet the requirements for the global integration.
3. National plan on bringing information technology? to mountainous, remote and border areas ratified by the National Assembly
On November 10, 2010, the National Assembly ratified the national plan to bring information technology? to mountainous, remote and border areas which aims to narrow the gap in accessing information among different areas, thus helping foster the economic development and improve living standards .
Together with the plan, the programme on providing telecommunication services for the public interest will be implemented in 250 districts and 3000 comunes in 2011-2015
4. Telecom companies leading tax payers
On September 23, Vietnam Report, in coordination with VietNamNet newspaper announced the ranking of top 1000 tax payers. The biggest tax payers include two giants in the telecom sector, MobiFone, which paid six trillion dong in tax and Viettel.
Despite a lot of difficulties, telecom service providers still managed a turnover increase of 57.2 percent compared to the previous year.
5. The management over Internet and online game business strengthened
In 2010, MIC and local management departments have applied measures to strengthen the online games management. Five groups of measures have been applied to minimize the negative impacts of online games on society.
The Vietnam Internet Association was established on June 23, 2010.
6. Information security vital for organizations and businesses
MIC has, for the first time, released the message about information security on the Day of Vietnam Information Security 2010. This is an important event aiming to heighten people’s awareness about the information, encourage the IT application and development, thus helping state management agencies to build a mechanism to ensure information security.
7. The biggest ever book fair organised
The third international book fair opened on September 17-21, 2010, also one of the events to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi. There were 230 booths, where thousands of books and publications were displayed.
8. The first ASEAN’s photo and documentary film festival organized
The festival themed “the Countries and People of ASEAN” attracted nearly 7000 pieces of work from photographers and reporters from press agencies, and film makers from ASEAN countries
9. The first Spring Newspaper Exhibition in France
On February 27, 2010, the Vietnam Spring Newspaper Exhibition 2010 opened at the Vietnam Culture Centre in Paris in France which witnessed the participation of 680 press publications from 400 press agencies in Vietnam. The event was a milestone in the integration and development of Vietnam’s media in the international tribune.
10. Vietnam wins the first prize in the 39th UPU competition
The winner is Ho Thi Hieu Hien, a student of the Tay Son Secondary School in Hai Chau district in Da Nang City.
