At 08:30 pm on March 26, thousands of young people, businesses and big cities will turn off the lights to show their determination in the fight against climate change - a serious problem of the globe. Earth Hour and beyond the Hour
Responding to Earth Hour 2011, Vietnam Green Generation Network coordinated with Living and Learning Center for Environment and Community (Live & Learn) and Center for Environmental Training and Communication (CETAC) under Vietnam Environment Administration to launch “G60+ - Earth Hour and beyond the hour” campaign. To explain the meaning of the campaign, organizers said Earth Hour brings a message “Turning off the lights in an hour and taking actions in 365 days”. The character ‘G’ means “Earth Hour and “60+” implies switching electricity off in more than 60 minutes to help the Earth relax, the collaboration of over 60 coordinators, the organization of more than 60 response events, the participation of more than 60 institutions, and the event carried out at more than 60 locations.
“G60+ - Earth Hour and beyond the Hour” includes a lot of activities in various localities. Individuals, groups, clubs, universities or organizations can register response activities at http://tinyurl.com/g60-plus. Further information related to a series of events can be found at website: www.thehexanh.net. The World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF) said it has created a website: www.beyondthehour.org in about 11 languages, including Vietnamese so that individuals and organizations can share their activities with the aim to mitigate human impacts on environment. Following Hanoi (2009), Ho Chi Minh City (2010) and Hue (2011), a representative from WWF added that it had received an official letter from Da Nang City’s People’s Committee about hosting Earth Hour 2012
