23 August 2025 | 09:07:00 AM

Pu Mat National Park in the central province of Nghe An has received a rare stump-tailed macaque voluntarily surrendered by a resident.

On August 21, a resident of Hamlet 3 in Do Luong Commune handed over the 9.8-kilogramme stump-tailed macaque to the Do Luong Forest Protection Board.

The animal is classified as a rare and endangered species

The macaque was handed over to Pu Mat National Park to be cared for and monitored to ensure its health before being released back into the wild.

Pu Mat National Park on August 18 also took in five wild animals handed over by locals, consisting of three pig-tailed macaques, a yellow-headed temple turtle, and a deer weighing around 200 kilogrammes.

According to a Pu Mat National Park representative, the repeated voluntary handovers of wild animals show rising public awareness of wildlife protection.
