19 November 2025 | 06:41:00 AM

Vu Quang National Park in the central province of Ha Tinh has received a Sunda pangolin and a Burmese python voluntarily handed over by local residents.

Hoang Hao Hung discovered the 8.7kg Sunda pangolin in his garden in Thanh Sen Ward on the morning of November 16. Realising the animal was a rare species, Hung contacted the Thanh Sen Ward People's Committee to hand it over to the authorities.

The pangolin, scientifically known as Manis javanica, is classified as an endangered species in group IB and is listed in Vietnam's Red Data Book.

The animals have been transferred to Vu Quang National Park for monitoring and care before being released back into the wild.

On the same day, Nguyen Van Hai in Cam Binh Commune discovered a 6.2kg Burmese python while walking in the grounds of Cam Binh High School. He immediately notified the local authorities.

The python (Python bivittatus) is native to south-east Asia and is listed as a group IIB endangered species requiring strict protection.

According to the Ha Tinh Forest Protection Department, both animals have been transferred to Vu Quang National Park for monitoring and care before being released back into the wild.
