Photos: The beauty of black orchids in Vietnam forests

Of over 1,000 species of orchids found in Vietnam, there are species with special colors - black or dark purple – which are rare in the wild.



Bulbophyllum nigrescens: Found in Thailand, Yunnan Province China and Vietnam in sparse woods growing on tree trunks at elevations around 400 to 1,500 meters of a miniature size, warm to cool-growing lithophytes or epiphytes with squat, globular, flattened ventrally, rugose pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical and linear to lanceolate leaf that blooms in the late winter and early spring on an erect, basal (15 to 50cm long) many-flowered inflorescence.



Bulbophyllum spadiciflorum is a species of orchid in the genus Bulbophyllum.



Sunipia nigricans or the Black Sunipia: Found in Yunnan province of China and Vietnam at elevations of 1,200 to 1,800 meters as a small sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte that blooms in the spring.



Trichotosia dalatensis



Bulbophyllum lemniscatoides:This species is native to Java, Sumatra, Thailand and Vietnam. It is found on mountain sides at about 1500m above sea level. The pseudobulbs are 2 cm tall and the two leaves about 10cm long. This species is deciduous or semi deciduous when flowering. The raceme is 4-5cm long and carries 20-30 flowers, each 2-3mm wide. The mobile appendages are 5-6mm long.
