Newly-discovered rock formation in Danang resembles Da Dia Reef

09 September 2025 | 06:53:00 AM

A spectacular columnar rock range, reminiscent of Da Dia Reef in Dak Lak Province, has been recently discovered in the central city of Danang.

The columnar rock range is situated near the Nuoc Che Hydropower Plant in Phuoc Nang Commune, approximately 2 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh Road. Towering slabs of stone rise in layered formations, closely resembling the famed Da Dia Reef.

According to residents, the rock range was long hidden beneath forest trees and soil, with only a small section exposed, and therefore went largely unnoticed.

The columnar rock range extends for more than 500 metres, with clusters of stone pillars rising around 5 metres high in a continuous line along the road.

The stone pillars rise in vertical rows, their cross-sections forming flawless quadrilateral, hexagonal, or circular patterns, aligned with remarkable symmetry.

Geologists guess that the rock range could be millions of years old. Over time, weathering and erosion have sculpted the sedimentary layers into extraordinary stone columns.

Vu Dinh Cuoi, Vice Chairman of Phuoc Nang Commune’s People’s Committee, reported that village elders had found the formation stretching nearly 5 kilometres deep into the forest.

He added that several businesses have expressed interest in the site, and the commune is inviting them to conduct surveys and propose plans tailored to local conditions and the environment.

He also expected that the Danang Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism would support efforts to preserve and promote the site’s tourism potential.
