The plant named Aristolochia xuanlienensis belongs to the Aristolochiaceae, or Birthwort family. Scientists said this species has not been found anywhere else in the world.
Vietnamese scientists and Chinese experts worked together to analyse and compare samples of the plant, and detected that there were many differences in shape and size from all other known species.
The samples are now being kept at Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
Scientists also discovered the presence of three species of flora in the reserve, which were not known to have existed in Vietnam: Lindera Megaphylla P.C, Kailarsenia LineatA R.Br, and Didymocarpus Pupureobracteatus Smith .
