Khanh Hoa Vows To Become Major National Hub

28 December 2011 | 09:25:00 AM

As one of high growth earners with its economic structure well on the way to becoming an industrialized and modernized province, the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa is striving to become a center for business, culture, tourism, science and technology, and human resource training for Vietnam's coastal, south central and central highlands regions.

Under its master socio-economic development plan until 2020, Khanh Hoa Province is prioritizing the development of a dynamic economy to become one of the country's centrally-administrated cities. To this end, the province will focus on six main points to ensure a breakthrough in its development.
Firstly, it will promote its marine economic development, with top priorities to be given to oil and gas, shipbuilding, and maritime economy. Secondly, the province is to further develop its infrastructure and boost the urbanization process, thus creating a foundation for Khanh Hoa to actually become an economic, cultural and tourism center of the country's coastal, south central and central highlands regions. Thirdly, Khanh Hoa will speed up in depth the development of tourism and services. Fourthly, it plans to continuously develop the Van Phong Economic Zone and concentrated industrial parks to create an impetus for the province's socioeconomic development. Fifthly, Khanh Hoa will adopt scientific and technological advances and improve the quality of human resources. Last but not least, the province will also further its administrative reforms and gradually increase the provincial competitiveness index (PCI).
In the 2011-2020 period, the province's economic sectors will be developed under the orientation of industrialization and modernization. Accordingly, tourism and services must become the province's advantages and Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa tourism should reach the international levels. Khanh Hoa Province will develop tourist resorts in Nha Trang city and Cam Ranh Peninsula, and focus on the fields of finance and banking, information and technology, and telecommunications.
The province will give priorities to sustainably developing hi-tech and maritime industries as well as those of high competitive advantages. In addition, it should attach importance to the sectors that serve agricultural and rural development, restore and strongly develop traditional sectors, lure more investment into Suoi Dau, Ninh Thuy and Dien Khanh industrial areas, and complete the infrastructure of Van Thang, Bac (North) Cam Ranh and Nam (South) Cam Ranh industrial zones.
On the agricultural field, the province will combine the production of goods with the development of urban markets, tourist areas and industrial and economic zones, and build an agriculture of intensive cultivation, thus making a substantial improvement in the local agricultural, forestry and fishery production. It plans to develop hi-tech industrial parks and clean agriculture in harmony with the building of new rural areas. The fishery will become a key economic sector of the province, in a hope of high export turnovers.
To ensure socio-economic development, Khanh Hoa Province needs to accelerate the large-scale urbanization process. Nha Trang city will be extended towards the west to Dien Khanh district. The province will establish the satellite towns of Cam Ranh, Ninh Hoa, Van Gia, and Dien Khanh and some urban zones, in a bid to upgrade Khanh Hoa into one of the country's centrally-administrated cities. In parallel, roads, railways, and sea and air routes will be upgraded. The province should soon complete the construction of the Nha Trang - Ho Chi Minh City expressway, kick off the Nha Trang - Ho Chi Minh City express railway and some highway routes, and upgrade the Cam Ranh International Airport capable to serve 2.5 million passengers per year.
Khanh Hoa has already defined three regions of its top priorities, including the Van Phong Economic Zone, Nha Trang city and Cam Ranh city. It will develop Nha Trang city into a center for sea tourism, trade and services. The Van Phong Economic Zone will be built and developed to have the Van Phong International Transshipment Port and key industries of electricity, petrochemical and shipbuilding. The province plans to develop high-quality services in Cam Ranh Peninsula, with the Northern Cam Ranh Peninsula Tourist Site becoming a complex of modern tourist resorts.
The Khanh Hoa master socioeconomic development plan until 2020 is important not only to Khanh Hoa Province but also to the whole region. Therefore, to achieve the objectives, the province should have synchronous solutions for comprehensive and sustainable development, promote industrialization and modernization, and deeply integrate into the regional and world economies.
