JICA helps Hai Phong City to implement environment improvement project

Haiphong City Environment Improvement Project is carried out with ODA worth 22,823 million JPY for two Loan Agreements (about 290 million USD) provided by the Japanese Government and scheduled to be completed in 2015.




 
Ground breaking ceremony for package A1 (Construction of Sewer Line) and A4 (Construction of Regulation Lakes) of the project were made in Haiphong city on December 6th 2011. Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh - the Provincial Party Secretary, Mr. Duong Anh Dien – Haiphong PC Chairman and JICA Representative Ms. Maki Tomuro are among distinguished guests present at the ground breaking ceremony.
Haiphong City Environment Improvement Project is to prevent flood, improve water quality and increase appropriate solid waste treatment, by rehabilitating and developing the existing drainage system, sewerage system and solid waste collection and treatment system, thereby improving urban environment in Haiphong City.
The project is comprised of (i) sewerage and drainage component and (ii) Solid waste component. Activities carried under the project include civil works, construction of waste water treatment plant, sewer line system, pumping stations, landfill sites, equipments, and resettlement site development…Capacity building and public awareness are also activities under the project.
Haiphong City Environment Improvement Project is carried out with ODA worth 22,823 million JPY for two Loan Agreements (about 290 million USD) provided by the Japanese Government and scheduled to be completed in 2015.
JICA is one of the major development partners of Vietnam in the environment sector especially in the sewerage sector. JICA has made financial assistances in developing and upgrading the sewerage systems in major cities including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hue City, Thu Dau Mot Town (Binh Duong Province), and Vinh Yen Town (Vinh Phuc Province).
