Increase in air monitoring frequency in HCM City proposed

18 December 2019 | 07:41:00 AM

The HCM City Department of Natural Resources and Environment has proposed local authorities to raise the frequency of air monitoring.

According to the department, the air monitoring is conducted just 10 days in the morning and afternoon per month.

HCM City faces the serious pollution

So the department suggested that it would be necessary to do the work daily in the morning, midday and afternoon.

In the early morning, many local streets such as Truong Chinh, Cach Mang Thang Tam, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai saw dense smog.

The department also recommended the rise in PM10 and PM2.5 index measurement every day at all the city’s air monitoring stations. This would help the agency to have more information to provide for people on both its website and smart phone apps.

The plan should be implemented in the 2020-2022 period, the department added.

In HCM City, the air quality index on December 12 and 13 was at the level of affecting people’s health, particularly in the morning and early afternoon, Pam Air and Air Visual data indicated.

Meanwhile, Hanoi has experienced terrible air pollution with the air quality index measured at up to 260, ranking among the most polluted cities in the world.
