Hundreds of people gather litter on Ly Son Island

06 May 2019 | 09:41:00 AM

Hundreds of people, including Singer Tuan Hung, joined hands to collect rubbish on Ly Son Island in the central province of Quang Ngai.

This is among activities to mark the launch of an island-wide anti-plastic waste campaign.

Since early today, May 3, Singer Tuan Hung and his friends from Hanoi along with local residents started the work at the beach and at An Hai Village’s Temple, a historical site on the island.

In the morning, dozens of bags of rubbish were gathered and then destroyed.

Hung, who visited Ly Son for the first time, was surprised at the locality’s scenery. “Ly Son is very nice, but it is still being polluted by plastic waste. I want to contribute to cleaning the place,” he added.

In March, a group of 500 volunteers also conducted a beach clean-up activity on Ly Son.

Ly Son Island, has around 21,000 inhabitants, 73% of whom make their living from farming garlic and spring onions, alongside fishing. It hosts around 200,000 tourists each year.
