Flooding hits North South railway, disrupting train services

20 November 2025 | 06:40:00 AM

Flooding in southern central Vietnam has eroded and submerged several sections of the North South railway, forcing the suspension of multiple trains.

Vietnam Railway Transport JSC said services on the section between Nha Trang Station in Khanh Hoa and Dieu Tri Station in Gia Lai have been halted to ensure safety as floods worsen.

The affected trains include the SE7 from Hanoi, the SE6 and SE22 from HCM City, and the SE21 from Danang.

Earlier, the operator also suspended train SNT1 on November 17 and services SE8, SE5, SE21, SE22 and SE6 on November 18. As of 9 am on November 19, a total of 10 passenger trains had been halted. Passengers can change or refund their tickets within 30 days at railway stations.

At Cay Cay Station in Khanh Hoa on Wednesday morning, heavy rain funnelled water onto the tracks, submerging large sections. Erosion was also reported along several stretches, posing safety risks and forcing operations to stop.

Torrential rain likewise left parts of the track underwater at Chi Thanh Station in Dak Lak. Similar conditions were recorded at Tu Bong Station in Khanh Hoa and other sections of the North South route.

A representative of Vietnam Railway Transport JSC said a stretch of track between Dieu Tri and Tuy Hoa had been inundated, forcing several trains to stop and wait for water to recede. Services can only resume after the water withdraws and safety checks are completed, he said.
