Con Dao launches first electric bus route

25 December 2025 | 06:55:00 AM

Con Dao will launch its first all-electric bus route on December 25, linking Con Dao Market with Co Ong Airport as part of efforts to promote green transport on the island.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Management Centre, route 173 is the first of six electric bus routes planned for the Con Dao special administrative zone.

The service uses 40-seat electric buses made by Kimlong, equipped with air conditioning. The route covers more than 17km, with a journey time of about 30 minutes. A total of 114 trips will operate daily between 5 am and 7 pm.

Fares are charged by distance, ranging from VND 5,000 to VND 40,000 (about USD 0.21 to USD 1.67).

The route has 39 stops and directly connects the airport with Con Dao Market, two major transport hubs with high travel demand. The service is expected to offer a more convenient and cost-effective option than other modes of transport.

This is also the first public bus service to operate in Con Dao, supporting green transition efforts and helping protect the area’s distinctive ecological landscape.

The centre said it will work with relevant agencies to add five more electric bus routes, numbered from 174 to 178. Once fully deployed, the network is expected to cover more than 90 per cent of key locations across Con Dao.

Con Dao, part of Ho Chi Minh City, covers nearly 76 sq km and comprises 16 islands, with Con Son being the largest. In recent years, transport, travel, accommodation and food services have expanded rapidly, helping strengthen Con Dao’s position on Vietnam’s tourism map.
