Climate change aid expected to reach USD248 mln

27 July 2012 | 10:02:00 AM

Vietnam expects to receive USD248 million of aid to its efforts to adapt to climate change this years, as all major international donors have now joined the Support Programme to Respond to Climate Change (SP – RCC).

Funding for the programme has increased year after year, from USD138 million in 2010 to USD142.5 million in 2011.

The aid programme has chosen 60 top priority projects in 53 provinces, particularly those in coastal areas, the Mekong Delta and mountainous regions, which have an estimated total investment of USD20 trillion (USD952 million).

The projects focus on addressing urgent issues such as constructing important sea dyke and embankment systems, stopping saltwater intrusion and restoring mangrove forest.
