02 June 2011 | 02:05:00 PM

Ba Bể Lake will receive the Ramsar certificate from the UNESCO on June 5 to become the 3rd Ramsar site in Việt Nam.

Ba Be lake
Ba Bể, located in the northern mountainous province of Bắc Kạn, around 240km from Hà Nội, is admired as one of 20 most splendid lakes around the world. It has been recognized as ASEAN’s Heritage Park.
The lake covers over 500 hectares and lies 178 meters above the sea level. This is the only natural fresh-water karst  lake in Việt Nam.
As part of the Ba Bể National Park, the lake is home to several rare species of fauna and flora.
The recognition of Ba Bể as the Ramsar site marks new progress Việt Nam has advanced to date in the implementation of the Ramsar Convention and reflects the country’s efforts to preserve bio-diversity.
