VACNE ACTIVITIES

Assessment of the implementation of the National Target Program on Climate Change Response is an important and urgent activity

30 April 2011 | 07:11:00 AM

This is a conclusion drawn by the VACNE Scientific Committee before it suggests the Vietnam Union for Scientific and Technological Associations (VUSTA) to assign VACNE to implement this project in 2001.

The National Target Program on Climate Change Response has started since 2009 nationwide with 9 concrete tasks, but it encounters some shortcomings due to its incomplete preparation and time limit. Therefore, it is necessary to receive critical comments from responsible scientists engaged by VACNE to the program in terms of assessment of the level and impact of climate change in Vietnam as well as the development of scientific and technological programs, institutions, policies, and action plans to respond to climate change.

At the discussion, Prof.Dr.Sc. Truong Quang Hoc, Chairman of the VACNE Scientific Committee, fully agreed with the above statement and highly appreciated capability and responsibility of the VACNE's scientists for their willingness to participate in this project in spite of limited finance for the project. On the contrary, Ass. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hoe, Chairman of the VACNE Critical Committee stated that although the source of finance is limited, it's precious because it shows the Government’s acknowledgment of the role of NGOs in mobilizing every source towards the country’s sustainable development.
