Waste in Ha Long Bay

25 July 2012 | 09:31:00 AM

VietNamNet Bridge – Being recognized as a new world natural wonder in April 2012, the Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh province is being harmed by daily and industrial waste.

Dọc theo ven bờ biển vịnh Hạ Long, rác thải sinh hoạt tràn ngập khắp nơi.

Rubbish is along the coast of Ha Long Bay.

Khu vực bãi biển phường Hồng Hải, TP Hạ Long mặc dù các cơ quan chức năng đã dựng lên biển cấm không xả các loại rác thải, chất thải xuống biển thế nhưng ngay bên dưới chân biển cấm này người dân vẫn vô tư đổ rác thải xuống biển.

Local people discharge waste despite the waste ban sign.

Khi thủy triều lên, rác thải ven bờ bị sóng cuốn trôi dạt ra vịnh Hạ Long trôi nổi khắp nơi.

When the tide rises, waste is swept to the bay.

The bay is also harmed by industrial waste. In the picture, construction companies used waste from coal mines to encroach to the sea in Cam Pha city, Quang Ninh province.

“We can collect normal waste by fishing them out but industrial waste and waste water discharged by factories and hotels at night is difficult to be controlled,” said Mr. Nguyen Cong Thai, vice chief of the Ha Long Bay Management Board.

Theo thống kê của phòng Tài Nguyên-Môi trường, Ban quản lý Vịnh Hạ Long, trung bình mỗi ngày 80 nhân viên ở các tổ, đội của Ban quản lý đi thuyền thu gom khoảng 2,5 tấn rác thải sinh hoạt trên Vịnh Hạ Long".

According to the Ha Long Bay Management Board, they collect around 2.5
tons of daily waste on the bay each day.
