The roads of dust in Hanoi, HCM City

27 August 2009 | 09:55:00 AM

(VietNamNet Bridge) – Nguyen Huu Canh is one of the most disreputable roads in HCM City having the highest number of incidents, flooded most often, being repaired most often and just being a terribly dusty road. In Hanoi, Lang – Hoa Lac is the most polluted road.

The 4km long Nguyen Huu Canh road, which runs from District 1 to Binh Thanh district, has one seriously damaged section in Binh Thanh that is one kilometer long.

On that 1km section, there are many construction works underway, including a tunnel, two roads leading to the Thu Thiem bridge, the new residential areas of The Manor and Saigon Pearl and the complex of villas along the Sai Gon River. Barriers are placed along this road, causing traffic jams and an ugly view.

With many trucks traveling along this road everyday, the road bed is damaged. They also bring mud and sand from construction sites to the road. During dry, hot days, this road is very dusty.

Tran Dinh Phu, who works in District 1, said: “I have to travel on this road to get my office. Before leaving my home, I have to “equip” myself with mask and a thick coat against dust”.

Mr. Phuc, a local resident, said his home is closed all the time but furniture is always covered by a thick layer of dust.

Because of construction sites along the road, the drainage system is stuck by sand and mud from these works, resulting in floods whenever it rains.

In Hanoi, the slowly-ran Lang – Hoa Lac highway project raises difficulties for travelers.

Dan Tri and VNExpress have taken pictures of the two roads:
