Nationwide continues to suffer bad weather

Twenty seven people were killed and missing in the northern mountain provinces by the Typhoon Rammasun, including seven people in Ha Giang, six in Lai Chau, five in Lang Son, three in Son La, one in Dien Bien, one in Cao Bang, one in Bac Kan and three in Lao Cai, reported by the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and National Committee for Search and Rescue on July 22.

Due to influence of the storm circulation, over 3,975 hectares of rice fields and hundreds of hectares of farm goods were destroyed completely.

Statistics showed that the storm blew up 491 house’s roofs and destroyed completely 757 houses. In addition, 5,992 households were flooded.

The storm caused damage of VND 125 billion, including about Dien Bien with VND 42 billion, Son La with VND 35 billion and Lai Chau with VND 20 billion.

At the end of July 22, water level on local rivers has started to go down as a result of the rain stopped. Currently, local authority in collaboration with residents have joined hand to overcome difficulties and consequences after the storm, said Director of Lai Chau’s Agriculture and Rural Development Department Mr. Ha Van Um.

In Ha Giang province, local rivers' water level also has gone down. Local authorities and relevant agencies of Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho and Lao Cai province helped residents to repair their houses, said Director of Ha Giang’s Agriculture and Rural Development Department Nguyen Duc Vinh.

According to the latest news from the National Meteorology and Hydrology Forecast Center, a new storm named Matmo, which approached East Sea on July 19, being moved Vietnam's northward.

Center said that the southwest monsoon has operated strongly in the areas of East Sea and the territorial water of Vietnam's south-eastern region.

Currently, the showery weather accompanied with thunderstorm shoulders in the territorial waters from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau province, Ca Mau to Kien Giang province and the Gulf of Thailand, including Spratly Island. Matmo sustained wind speeds up of level 5-6, and gusted up to level 7-8.

Because of impact of the southwest monsoon, the showery weather will experience Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces in the time ahead. The highest daily temperature in the areas is forecast at 25-27 degree Celsius.
