Speaking at a meeting with the Vietnam Environment Administration in the city last week, HCMC chairman Le Hoang Quan said those found to kill the river should be put in jail and have their equipment confiscated. |
Quan is also chairman of the Dong Nai River Committee.
Bui Cach Tuyen, head of the administration, who is leading a task force to inspect the execution of a Dong Nai River basin environment protection project, said this project involved 12 cities and provinces such as Daklak, Daknong, Lam Dong, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, HCMC, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
During Tuyen’s meetings with leaders of the provinces of Lam Dong, Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau, most of the provinces said they needed more financial and technical support, and greater authority to cope with environmental pollution, according to Tuyen.
