Fansipan fir and rhododendron trees to be honoured

Leaders of Hoang Lien National Park near Sapa Town in Lao Cai Province is proposing to honour the groups of fir and rhododendron trees on the Fansipan Mountain as the heritage trees of Vietnam.

Those trees live 2,700 metres high on the Fansipan Mountain in Hoang Lien mountain range. Managers of Hoang Lien National Park has set up a team in order to make the most exact assessment of the trees. The fir group now has 26 trees, most of them are over 300 years old and make up 1,000 square metres on the mountain. The rhododendron has 56 trees with average age of over 200 years old.
Leaders of Hoang Lien National Park hope the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment will recognise the trees as heritage of Vietnam.
Blooming rhododendron
Not only are fir and rhododendron trees of Hoang Lien Mountain Range the endemic trees of the national park, they are also valued in multiple aspects. These two tree have been listed in the red list of Vietnam.
Hoang Lien National Park is located near Lao Cai Province and Lai Chau Province. It contains various valuable plants and animals of the tropical forest. In 2003, Hoang Lien National Park was recognised by the Southeast Asia secretariat as ASEAN Heritage Park.
