Annual Meeting of ISGE Steering Committee

Afternoon 30/11, in Hanoi, the Annual Meeting of ISGE Steering Committee held under the chairmanship of the Minister of MONRE, Pham Khoi Nguyen, and Deputy Minister of MONRE, Tran Hong Ha has attracted the donors from the Embassy of Canada, Denmark, Sweden, France, Japan, international organizations and development partners: CIDA, Danida, Sida, JICA, WB, UNDP and representatives of ministries/agencies of Vietnam.

This is the last meeting of ISGE Steering Committee for the period 2008 - 2010, occurred in the context of MONRE ending implementing its 5-year plan 2006 - 2010 to move into a new stage implementing the next 5-year plan, 2011 - 2015.

 

Addressing the opening session, Minister Pham Khoi Nguyen stressed that moving into the 5-year plan 2011 - 2015, MONRE identified five priorities in NRE sector for policy dialogue including: responding to climate change and environmental protection; integrated management for seas and Islands; integrated and sustainable management for water resources; land use planning and land management; the economy towards low carbon, green and sustainable growth. The Minister called donors, ISGE members of 20 international organizations and 15 ministries/agencies of Vietnam to discuss actively on modality, support for ISGE operation 2011 - 2015.

 

Attend the meeting, ISGE members highly agreed with a draft ISGE action framework 2011 - 2015 by ISGE Secretariat presented. Accordingly, the specific objectives of ISGE period 2011 - 2015 are to increase the quantity and quality of forums for policy dialogue in NRE sector at national, regional and international levels; development and expand a NRE policy dialogue network to local level to share, exchange and provide consulting services on information, techniques and skills necessary for organizations and individuals concerned; building a feedback system flexible for comments to improve the quality of policy dialogue of the sector.


However, representatives of the Swedish SIDA and Canadian CIDA, said the next time the donors would consider new ways to support activities of this sector as well as ISGE. CIDA representative emphasized that while bilateral donors provide new ways to support differently, MONRE needs to develop a general method of attracting donors.
 

Chaired the discussion, Deputy Minister Tran Hong Ha said that the comments of the participants are of great significance to complete the draft ISGE action framework 2011 - 2015. On behalf of the MONRE, Deputy Minister expressed his appreciation to the donors, especially the three main sponsors: CIDA, Danida and Sida providing effective support for the operation of ISGE period 2008 - 2010. Also, Deputy Minister calls for attention, suggestion, consultation and continued support of donors for the operation ISGE period 2011 - 2015 to promote activities in policy dialogue more effective and sustainable.
