On this occasion, the ministry presented 10,000 hibiscus and mangrove trees to the Thai Thuy Wetland Nature Reserve and residents.

Around 1,000 mangrove trees were planted at the ceremony. Depending on weather conditions, the remaining 9,000 trees will be grown in the following days before March 30.

According to Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Do Duc Duy, the 10,000 trees are well-suited to the natural conditions, soil, and climate of the wetland areas in Thai Binh Province. They are intended to help preserve biodiversity, protect wetland ecosystems, prevent natural disasters, combat saltwater intrusion, address climate change, safeguard coastal dikes, reduce wave impact, and foster sustainable livelihoods for local communities.

At the ceremony, Ramla Khalidi, UNDP Vietnam Resident Representative, expressed that she had eagerly anticipated this tree-planting event for a long time. In 2019, UNDP supported Thai Binh Province in establishing the Thai Thuy Wetland Nature Reserve. "Caring for and preserving this reserve proves that Vietnam can achieve economic growth and development without compromising the environment," she added.
